Competition Tips
from
Christopher Parker-BCABBA Head Judge
-before you walk onstage, ensure your tan is even and that oil/sheen spray is applied conservatively (excess oil/sheen will be too shiny and make you appear smooth)
-do not chew gum, wear glasses/jewellery onstage (wedding bands are permissible)
-have Gatorade/water offstage (backstage assistants may have some) in case of cramping
-pose smoothly and confidently, and try to avoid contorted facial expressions (smile!), and do not hold your breath when posing
-although you may be nervous, try to avoid finger twitching and other distracting mannerisms onstage
-when doing 1/4 turns, look in the direction you are facing, not toward the audience, and keep your feet flat (no calf flexing!)
-when a pose is called for, get into the pose fairly quickly and hold it. Try not to move around too much, as the judges may be scanning several competitors in addition to you
-during your posing routine, use music that reflects your personality, have fun, and be creative. The audience will love you for it!

At the night show, costume jewellery is permitted, as long it is not too distracting

-although you may be nervous, try to avoid finger twitching and other distracting mannerisms onstage
-walk onstage in a relaxed, yet confident manner. Avoid being too 'slinky' or too 'stiff.'
Smile a natural, 'unforced' smile
-with most competitors, feet/heels and knees together for poses is more flattering. Toes pointed out or a 'staggered' foot stance looks awkward and can overemphasize leg development on some competitors
-for front and back relaxed poses, flare the lats and stand upright. Arms should be flared out with the lats, but do not exaggerate this pose
-for side poses, look in the direction you are facing and not toward the audience
